Jackson’s Adjustable Artists Apron

Just a few of the possible strap arrangements. They can be tied in front, in back or wrapped around the front and THEN tied in the back. The straps can be passed over the shoulders straight or crossed. The eyelet system can be used in a number of ways as well.
New Product Designed by our Customers
Using a simple eyelet system, we’ve have created an apron that allows you to decide on the fit that’s best for you. The two supportive straps do not pull at your neck and can be passed straight over your shoulders or crossed behind your back for extra security. With a choice of three different height settings artists of all shapes and sizes will find themselves comfortable and covered. The apron is constructed from a heavyweight splash-proof canvas, and features three large pockets for convenience plus a chest pocket for spectacles and ipods.

Showing the straps crossed or straight.
This is nearly the final design, except that the loops became eyelets (grommets).
The Design Story of the New Apron
We often get requests for new products from our customers – an exciting new paint we’re yet to stock, designs for brushes that are hard to find elsewhere, or in this case a solution to a problem that many people were having difficulty with – finding studio protective clothing that was comfy enough to work in all day.
Back in June we had posted a call for ideas to our Facebook page to see exactly what kind of studio clothing people were after – many of our customers prefer the protection of an apron when they work, but had told us that they found the traditional neck-fastening variety uncomfortable or difficult to put on. We wanted to find out if there were any other changes they’d make, and the response was huge! Canvas fabric was a big favourite, as was having big pockets and some way of adjusting the size of the apron so all artists could wear it, so we made a list of the most frequently mentioned points and the best suggestions and sketched a few designs that we thought would make best use of your ideas.
These went back on Facebook and were scrutinised again, and our helpful customers were unanimous that simplification was the way to go. So we refined our designs and produced a mock-up with some canvas from our Hackney shop. After much debate and re-working, we think we’ve come up with something that will suit everyone. The final design features a simple-to-use eyelet system that allows the wearer to customise every part of the apron’s fit – shoulder straps that can be worn straight over the shoulders or crossed for extra support, three height fittings for every size and shape of torso, and extra long straps that can be tied in front or around the back. The apron is made in a hardwearing splash-proof canvas, and has four roomy pockets.

Getting closer to the final design. After consultation with our customers we found that simplification was the way to go.
We’d like to thank everyone who helped design your new Jackson’s apron – on Facebook you all gave great comments and critiques, and we hope you like what we came up with. See you soon when we get started on a smock!
